World Bank priced a $4 billion, seven-year Sustainable Development Bond after attracting more than $11 billion in orders from over 150 investors.
Banks and corporate treasuries accounted for 43% of allocations, while central banks and official institutions represented 30%.
The transaction offers a 4.50% coupon and broadens World Bank funding for programs supporting sustainable development globally.
The World Bank has priced a $4 billion Sustainable Development Bond due in August 2033, drawing more than $11 billion in investor orders.
The seven-year benchmark attracted more than 150 orders. Demand came from bank treasuries, central banks, official institutions and institutional asset managers.
The deal gives the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, fresh funding capacity for its sustainable development mandate. IBRD carries Aaa/AAA credit ratings.
“This 7-year Sustainable Development Bond demonstrates the confidence that high-quality investors place in the World Bank’s mission and its ability to mobilize capital for sustainable development,” said Jorge Familiar, Vice President and Treasurer, World Bank Group. “The quality of the orderbook reflects investors’ recognition of the World Bank’s financial strength and the positive impact of the programs these bonds support.”

Institutional demand drives $11 billion orderbook
Banks, bank treasuries and corporates received 43% of the allocations. Central banks and official institutions accounted for another 30%.
Asset managers, insurance companies and pension funds represented the remaining 27%.
Demand was also geographically diversified. Investors from Europe, the Middle East and Africa received 42% of allocations. The Americas accounted for 38%, while Asia represented 20%.
For institutional investors, the transaction combines highly rated sovereign-style credit exposure with capital directed toward the World Bank’s development activities.
The size of the orderbook also gave the issuer substantial demand relative to the final deal size. Orders exceeded the $4 billion issuance by more than two and a half times.

World Bank returns to dollar benchmark market
The bond pays a semi-annual coupon of 4.50%. It was priced at a spread of 3.9 basis points over the reference US Treasury.
Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Nomura and TD Securities served as lead managers. The bond will be listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.

Morgan Stanley also pointed to the breadth of the orderbook.
“We congratulate the World Bank team on a highly successful return to the USD market for a a stellar USD 4 billion 7-year trade. Again, the World Bank has demonstrated its strength with a high-quality diversified orderbook with strong demand from the outset that kept growing throughout the transaction. The deal is a true reflection of the issuer’s standing amongst the investor community. Morgan Stanley was honoured to have supported the World Bank in this syndication,” said Ben Adubi, Head of Sovereign, Supranational and Agency (SSA), Morgan Stanley.
Sustainable development demand remains broad
The issuance comes as development banks continue to rely on global capital markets to finance projects tied to economic development and sustainability priorities.
“The World Bank has once again demonstrated true market leadership, opening the post summer markets. Investors and issuers always take comfort in the capital markets when the World Bank demonstrates the strength of the market,” said Spencer Dove, Managing Director, Head of SSA Debt Capital Markets, Nomura.
TD Securities also highlighted demand for longer-dated World Bank issuance.
“Another outstanding benchmark transaction from the World Bank – and its second fixed-rate USD offering of 2026. Reopening the USD primary markets after the summer break highlights the continued global appeal of the World Bank name, especially for duration tenors,” said Paul Eustace, Global Head of SSA, TD Securities.

For investors and treasury executives, the transaction provides a fresh benchmark for demand across the sustainable development bond market. Its diversified institutional participation also shows the continuing role of supranational issuers in connecting global fixed-income capital with development finance needs.
