It sets standards for measuring the carbon intensity of individual crops, chain-of-custody traceability requirements, and verification procedures.Farmers who implement qualifying practices, such as cover cropping, reduced tillage, and improved nutrient management, will be able to generate documentation through an updated USDA carbon intensity calculator and use the resulting reports when selling feedstocks to biofuel producers. The administration framed the announcement as a market-driven complement to existing energy policy, noting that Trump recently extended the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit and set record Renewable Volume Obligations. Both moves created demand for low-carbon feedstocks that the new rule is intended to supply.“Today’s USDA’s Regenerative Feedstock Rule put farmers, not Washington bureaucrats, in the driver’s seat,” said Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, adding that farmers who choose to adopt regenerative practices will have opportunities to earn higher prices, lower input costs, and improve long-term soil health and profitability.Relevant: Grassroots Carbon Delivers 1.9 Mt Of Removals Through Regenerative RanchingThe agency said the potential scale is significant. Around six billion bushels of corn go annually into ethanol production, with roughly 68% of corn farmers already using at least one regenerative practice.Approximately 1.8 billion bushels of soybeans flow into biofuel production, with 70% of soybean farmers reporting similar practices. The rule builds on a $700 million regenerative pilot program launched in December 2025, under which the department has completed more than 67,000 whole-farm conservation plans covering 49 million acres.Read more: 1089 Inc Becomes U.S. Sub-Registry For GCR, Activates Insured Biofuels-Linked Carbon Credits 0 0 0 biofuelsregenerative agricultureTrump administrationUSDASubscribe to Our Weekly Newsletter Get the Latest News About the Carbon Industry Subscribe By checking this box, you confirm that you have read and are agreeing to our terms of use regarding the storage of the data submitted through this form.
