LEGO Group Invests in Nature and Technology-Based Carbon Removal Projects

Kenny Fisher

February 27, 2026

The LEGO Group announced a series of carbon removal investments, expanding the company’s carbon portfolio with both nature-based and technology-based projects.
The move builds on existing collaborations with climate solutions providers Climate Impact Partners and ClimeFi, which have included investments in a range of carbon removal technologies such as biochar, enhanced rock weathering, and reforestation projects.
Under the new agreements, the LEGO Group plans to invest an additional DKK 18 million (USD$18 million) across four carbon removal projects, including a project restoring degraded tropical forest across more than 14,000 hectares in Mexico, delivered by Climate Impact Partners, and three projects delivered by ClimeFi utilizing technologies including biomass geological storage that uses slurry injection technology to store carbon-rich organic waste deep underground, mineralization, which converts CO2 into building materials, and marine CO2 removal, which removes carbon dioxide through wastewater alkalinity enhancement for long-term storage in oceans.
Annette Stube, Chief Sustainability Officer at the LEGO Group, said:
“This purchase highlights our commitment to testing a broad range of credible pathways for nature and tech-based carbon removal. As the programme expands, it is helping to strengthen our understanding of different approaches and inform future decision-making on how carbon removal may complement our wider climate goals.”
The LEGO Group announced a series of climate-related commitments in 2023, including a pledge to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, and to invest over $1.4 billion in environmental sustainability initiatives over three years. The company’s targets to reduce absolute scopes 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions 37% by 2032, and by 90% by 2050 have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Stube added:
“While reducing emissions in our own operations remains our priority, this programme allows us to work with expert partners and contribute to solutions that may help scale effective climate action over time.”
