has launched a comprehensive framework designed to accelerate corporate investment in carbon credits, seeking to channel billions of dollars toward climate mitigation projects while establishing uniform standards across borders.The Coalition to Grow Carbon Markets, co-chaired by Kenya, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, unveiled its Shared Principles and accompanying Plan of Action at the COP30 Business and Finance Forum, which took place last week in São Paulo, Brazil.The framework represents a coordinated effort by five founding nations—including France and Panama—to address corporate concerns about inconsistent regulations hampering carbon market participation.The first day of COP30 saw developed countries like Canada, Switzerland, Luxembourg and New Zealand jointly endorse the coalition along with Peru and Zambia.The initiative establishes six core requirements for businesses purchasing carbon offsets: prioritizing direct emissions cuts, ensuring quality standards, guaranteeing social benefits, maintaining transparency, making substantiated claims, and supporting market infrastructure development.“Climate finance must reach the communities and projects where it can achieve the greatest impact,” said Ambassador Ali Mohamed, Kenya’s Special Climate Envoy and Coalition Co-chair.Relevant: COP30 Leaders Summit Puts Sustainable Fuels And Carbon Markets In FocusThe framework responds to persistent business complaints about fragmented guidance across jurisdictions.Companies have hesitated to invest substantially in carbon credits amid regulatory uncertainty and quality concerns, despite growing pressure to demonstrate climate action.The action plan outlines ambitious targets through to COP33, including expanding membership, aggregating corporate demand, and developing internationally consistent guidance.Governments endorsing the principles commit to exploring supportive policies, potentially including regulatory recognition for compliant companies.Major organizations backing the initiative include the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon
