Petrobras Appoints New Chief of Energy Transition and Sustainability
Mark Segal
July 21, 2025
Brazilian energy giant Petrobras announced the appointment of Angélica Laureano as Executive Director of Energy Transition and Sustainability, taking over the role following the departure in May of former Chief Energy Transition and Sustainability Officer, Mauricio Tolmasquim.
Petrobras established the Executive Office of Energy Transition and Sustainability in 2023, aimed at centralizing the company’s energy transition-related efforts, and encompassing areas including gas and energy processes, climate change, decarbonization, and renewable energy, as well as working with other areas of the company in researching and developing energy transition-related projects.
Laureano’s 45-year career include 37 years at Petrobras for 37, in the areas of Materials, Supply, Gas and Energy, and serving as President of Gaspetro, a Petrobras subsidiary in partnership with Mitsui Gás S.A.
Laureano said:
“We will continue to invest heavily in decarbonization projects, the production of more sustainable fuels, and the diversification of renewable energy sources. As leaders in the energy transition, we reaffirm our commitment to achieving net-zero operational emissions by 2050.”
Petrobras noted that with the new appointment, the company’s Executive Board will now be composed of five women, including one serving as president, out of a total of nine members, marking the first time in the company’s history that the senior management has more women than men. The company said that the composition of the Executive Board reflects its “commitment to diversity and gender equity and reinforces its leading role in the Brazilian market.”
Petrobras President Magda Chambriard said:
“We are committed to increasing female participation in all sectors of Petrobras because we believe that a diverse team creates a healthier and more productive work environment. I hope we can inspire other women to aspire to leadership positions, especially in the oil and gas sector, which remains predominantly male.”
