According to Carbon Removal Canada, besides stressing the need of reducing CO2 emissions, this move also signals the government’s recognition of the urgent need to address residual emissions through carbon removal. This reaction comes after Carbon Removal Canada and leading carbon removal organizations submitted an open letter to the Government of Canada earlier this year, calling for a public consultation on the role of permanent CDR in reaching net-zero goals and a low-carbon economy. In a motion that seems to reflect this appeal, the Canadian government stated that in the near future, it will ask relevant stakeholders to provide their feedback on the role that carbon dioxide removal can play in achieving climate targets and the ways in which national businesses can benefit from different opportunities introduced by the clean economy transition. As pointed out by Na’im Merchant, Carbon Removal Canada Co-Founder and Executive Director, by committing to a consultation, the government is confirming its long-term dedication to the sector, signaling support for innovative climate technology. «Canada is the best place for carbon removal,» Phil De Luna, Deep SkyThe governmental press release states, “Canada’s Carbon Management Strategy recognizes the need to scale up solutions that permanently remove emissions from the atmosphere, since some residual emissions are likely to remain despite aggressive mitigation efforts, including in agriculture, aviation, and shipping.”Relevant: New Report By Carbon Removal Canada Maps Out Procurement GuidelinesCarbon Removal Canada believes that facilitating a space for feedback on carbon dioxide removal will provide the chance to hear from Indigenous communities, provincial governments, and industry representatives, enabling a discussion that will highlight the economic and environmental opportunities introduced by CDR implementation. In a broader perspective, this interaction will allow the government to fully understand what is needed for scaling CDR technologies, enabling the country to evaluate the benefits related to them.Read more: Carbon Removal Canada’s First Report Shows The Country’s Potential In Scaling CDR 0 0 0 CanadaCarbon Removal CanadaCDRLeave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
