With its help, stakeholders can identify potential locations for safe and secure CO2 storage within the United States. The catalog focuses on geological formations that can act as natural seals, trapping CO2 deep beneath the Earth’s surface. These formations are categorized by name, age, and composition, along with their position relative to potential storage areas.Additionally, the database provides users with links to relevant research and data sources. This first-of-its-kind catalog represents a significant effort to compile scattered data into a single, user-friendly platform. EDX, a virtual library and data laboratory, is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM). This platform supports the entire research lifecycle, providing secure workspaces for ongoing projects and facilitating the curation and publication of valuable data.
