Image: enfinium.co.ukTotal0Shares 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 In another positive development for both carbon capture and energy-from-waste, Claire Coutinho, UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, has designated enfinium‘s proposal for the installation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology at the company’s Ferrybridge energy-from-waste plants as a Project of National Significance. The Ferrybridge facilities are located in West Yorkshire and are currently the largest energy-from-waste plants with the capacity to convert 1.4 million tons of otherwise unrecyclable waste into energy.Mike Maudsley, CEO of enfinium welcomed the announcement by saying: “This designation is an important step in realising our ambition to turn Ferrybridge into one of Europe’s biggest carbon removal projects. Carbon capture at Ferrybridge will deliver jobs in the green economy, decarbonise unrecyclable waste produced across the North of England and support West Yorkshire’s plans to have a Net Zero economy by 2038.”Relevant: enfinium Says Carbon Capture Should Be Used On All New UK Energy From Waste FacilitiesThe UK Government’s confirmation of the status is a significant milestone in the planning and consenting process for CCS at Ferrybridge. Statutory consultations are slated for later in 2024, which will be followed by the submission of a Development Consent to the Planning Inspectorate by late 2025.With the project offering the prospect of preventing 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 entering the atmosphere, its performance could account for achieving 6.5% of the government’s annual carbon capture and storage ambition.Paul Green, VP Business Development of enfinium, said: “Carbon capture at Ferrybridge is a critical infrastructure project for the UK. We look forward to commencing our planning and consenting programme this year and sharing our plans with West Yorkshire communities and key stakeholders.”enfinium’s commitment to spearhead an investment of up to $1 billion (£800 million) throughout the project lifecycle for carbon capture at Ferrybridge was declared in December, with operational targets set for 2030.Read more: enfinium Announces Up To £800M Investment In Carbon Capture Project 0 0 0 enfiniumFerrybridgeukUK carbon capturewaste to energyLeave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
