Job Description:
Pacific Forest Trust is seeking a passionate and talented Stewardship Outreach Associate to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, planning, and implementing an outreach and support program for the Mt. Ashland Demonstration Forest. Your primary focus will be engaging regional stakeholders and implementing basic stewardship of the forest. This position is critical in expanding understanding and support for PFT’s work in sustaining forests and collaborating with landowners and communities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Outreach and Education:
– Develop, plan, and implement an outreach program for the Mt. Ashland Demonstration Forest, engaging regional landowners, students, tribes, and other stakeholders.
– Work with PFT’s Communications Manager to share information about the forest and educational events.
– Explore collaboration opportunities with local universities and schools for hands-on learning and research partnerships.
– Assess the feasibility of an Intern Program and implement it if funded and feasible.
– Develop collaborations with local elementary and secondary schools for outdoor restoration and educational activities.
2. Stewardship:
– Assist the Stewardship Forester in standard stewardship and maintenance of the Mt. Ashland Forest.
– Work with the fire and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) community to expand conservation of fire-adapted forests.
– Assist with grant and funding development for restoration programs.
– Build understanding and adoption of PFT’s forest management approach for conservation values.
– Raise PFT’s profile in the region and build support for forest programs.
Qualifications and Experience:
– Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental studies, or a related field.
– Strong capacity with GIS mapping.
– Experience in developing and implementing educational and outreach programs.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Knowledge of private working forest conservation and climate resilient management practices.
– Familiarity with fire and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) community.
– Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
– Willingness to travel and work flexible hours.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $85,000, based on factors such as education, experience, skills, training, and location. Pacific Forest Trust offers competitive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and opportunities for professional development.
