Seasonal Environmental Educators – NYC Audubon
Job Description:
NYC Audubon is seeking two seasonal, part-time staff members to assist with public engagement, education, and events on weekends from Spring-Fall 2024. The Seasonal Environmental Educators will play a vital role in raising awareness and educating New Yorkers about urban biodiversity and sustainability. We are looking for enthusiastic, outgoing individuals with a passion for public engagement and an interest in environmental education and conservation.
About NYC Audubon:
NYC Audubon works for the protection of wild birds and habitat in the five boroughs, improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers. Our conservation and science activities, education and public programs, and advocacy and outreach efforts are critical due to climate change effects and the loss of natural environment in the city over many decades. NYC Audubon is currently going through a name change to better represent our work and is committed to building an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible organization.
Responsibilities:
– Staff NYC Audubon’s seasonal environmental center on Governors Island once a week
– Engage visitors at the environmental center, leading craft activities, answering questions, and representing the organization
– Assist with public art workshops, interpreting art works, and interacting with artists-in-residence
– Represent NYC Audubon at public community, parks, and wildlife festivals
– Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
– Excellent communications skills with comfort speaking to strangers
– Proactive problem-solving skills
– Customer service mindset
– Course work or degree in environmental education or similar field preferred
– Ability to work independently
– Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
– Comfort traveling to Governors Island and other sites around NYC
Job Details:
– Seasonal, part-time, hourly staff positions
– Work on Saturdays or Sundays from late April to late October
– Compensation: $20 per hour
– No fringe benefits included, but paid days off and sick time provided
– Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless accommodation is granted
