Job Description:
Pacific Institute is seeking a collaborative and impact-focused Researcher to support applied, interdisciplinary research and analysis focused on water and climate equity. This position will specifically focus on water-related challenges faced by and solutions for frontline communities in the United States. The ideal candidate will have a passion for water and climate change equity, strong research background, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. They should be able to work independently and in collaborative teams, and have an aptitude for learning new topics quickly. This role will involve project coordination, qualitative and quantitative research, writing, and oral presentations.

Responsibilities:
– Support water-climate-equity research per the direction of the Water and Climate Equity Lead
– Conduct collaborative and rigorous primary and secondary interdisciplinary, empirical research and analysis on water-climate-equity topics
– Gather information and data through analysis of primary and secondary data, literature reviews, and contacts with other researchers, practitioners, and organizations
– Document and write up results of work performed, including synthesizing large amounts of complex information and preparing final reports and other written products
– Prepare non-technical communication materials on research topics, such as blog posts, issue briefs, opinion articles, oral presentations, and press releases
– Provide programmatic and project support, including co-developing and tracking project team’s work plans and deliverables, coordinating internal and external meetings, and supporting fundraising activities

Requirements:
– Master’s degree with thesis requirement in water resources, climate, environmental or sustainability sciences, social sciences, or natural resource management
– Minimum five years of recent work experience as a professional applied researcher in a relevant field
– Strong research acumen, analytical and data analysis skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
– Proficient knowledge of the US water sector and strategies and approaches to support climate-resilient water and sanitation systems
– Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to create compelling presentations and translate technical information for non-technical audiences
– Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint and OneDrive, and collaboration tools such as Slack and Microsoft Teams

Preferred qualifications:
– Interdisciplinary advanced degree, ideally in combined social-natural sciences
– Experience researching the equity and justice of climate and water-related environmental policies and practices
– Experience working on large, interdisciplinary assessments
– Familiarity with water challenges in urban and rural areas or small water systems, and/or experience with tribes and Indigenous communities and/or communities of color
– Proficiency with data management and analysis tools such as GIS software and statistical analysis software
