As a Project Advocate, Sustainability, you will provide customer service for building owners, assist the public with understanding compliance processes for building sustainability laws, and seek to improve the efficiency of plan examination, inspections, and local law compliance. Your role is critical in engaging the community, facilitating progress, and ensuring timely submissions.

Responsibilities:

– Engage the community in understanding sustainability local laws and energy codes
– Serve as the customer service liaison for building owners and other stakeholders to provide information and increase compliance
– Liaise between the Department of Buildings, City agencies, and community organizations to support sustainable buildings
– Regularly meet with individual building owners to discuss compliance status
– Perform analysis to assess and recommend more efficient processes for plan examination, inspections, and compliance
– Prepare correspondence, reports, and strategic plans
– Conduct research and assist with the development of presentations and informational events for stakeholders
– Attend public forums and meetings to provide information on sustainability laws and energy codes
– Assist with maintaining accurate and accessible web content
– Collaborate with the Department’s Communications Team on social media and informational content
– Coordinate event planning and assist with advertising and public outreach campaigns
– Assist with other tasks and special projects as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
– Baccalaureate degree in architecture, architectural technology, biology, building science, chemistry, construction management, energy management, engineering, engineering technology, environmental science, facilities management, physics, or a related field
OR
– Completion of a construction trade apprentice program with an emphasis on energy efficiency for buildings, and two years of satisfactory experience in energy generation or conservation work
OR
– Four years of satisfactory experience in energy generation or conservation work
OR
– Equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Skills:
– Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
– Strong technical skills using web-based video and meeting platforms
– Proficiency with PC software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
– Ability to think critically and analyze complex information for public communication
– Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently
– Professional and positive attitude with the ability to take direction and incorporate feedback
– Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders
