Job Description:
Are you passionate about air quality and sustainability? Join the Clark County Department of Environment and Sustainability as a Principal Air Quality Specialist (AQS). In this role, you will supervise, review, evaluate, and assist with the work of professional and technical support staff involved in air quality planning. You will also have the opportunity to undertake your own air quality projects.
We are looking for a collaborative, open-minded, and critical thinker with at least four years of progressively responsible air quality program experience. The ideal candidate will be adaptable to changing circumstances and priorities, and a resourceful problem solver who can analyze problems from various perspectives using a wide range of tools. Supervisory experience and the ability to communicate with diverse groups are also essential.
Responsibilities:
– Plan, oversee, review, and evaluate the work of a major programmatic area within the Department of Environment and Sustainability
– Direct and coordinate the work of technical staff and ensure that program goals and objectives are achieved
– Provide training to technical staff and contractors
– Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for the program
– Coordinate budget development and administer expenditures for assigned areas of responsibility
– Prepare reports, correspondence, and other written materials
– Conduct research and analysis on environmental program policies and national/global policy issues
– Serve as a consultant and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for senior management and staff
– Provide assistance to the Director in developing strategic objectives and goals for the department and divisions
– Confer with and represent the County in meetings with staff from other departments, representatives of governmental agencies, and the public
Requirements:
– Master’s Degree in a scientific or engineering discipline, Public Administration, or a related field
– Four (4) years of full-time professional experience in environmental management and pollution control or a directly related field (a Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of additional related experience may be substituted for the Master’s Degree)
– Experience in a public agency setting and project or programmatic supervisory experience are desirable
– Possession of a valid Class C Driver’s License (specific positions may require this)
Salary and Benefits:
The salary for this position is $37.12 – $57.54 per hour. The exact salary will depend on qualifications and experience. In addition to competitive pay, the County offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, and more.
