President – Sustainable Northwest

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: $175,000 – $225,000 (commensurate with experience)

Description:
Sustainable Northwest is seeking a passionate, creative, and experienced professional to lead our organization as President. Sustainable Northwest is a nonprofit organization that forges natural resource solutions that benefit nature, people, and local economies. Our work focuses on promoting smart water use, clean energy, and healthy forests, farms, and ranches in collaboration with Tribal and rural communities throughout the Northwest. As President, you will be responsible for supporting a strong culture of inclusion, maintaining focus on strategic objectives, and ensuring the viability and sustainability of our program and organization. This position offers the opportunity to bring community members together to identify solutions to environmental challenges and create long-term economic value for rural communities and the broader public.

Responsibilities:
– Carry and communicate the message and work of Sustainable Northwest to various stakeholders, engaging the Board of Directors, Tribal Nations, neglected communities, donors, funders, and other external stakeholders
– Bring vision and strategic direction to the organization, engaging partners and setting the stage for thoughtful and sustainable growth
– Attract and steward the necessary resources to ensure the organization can accomplish its mission
– Foster stability and planning to support the growth of the organization
– Listen well, build relationships, and learn from staff and board members
– Make decisive decisions under pressure and convey a steady and supportive demeanor for staff
– Engage the board as appropriate to leverage their expertise
– Lead teams and manage up, down, and across the organization
– Actively engage with donors and other funding partners to build a viable and sustainable funding model for the organization
– Understand the field of natural resource conservation and authentically engage and utilize the voices and perspectives of rural and Tribal communities in the work and in identifying solutions
– Lead efforts to help the organization better understand, define, and execute its commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Qualifications:
– Strong communication and engagement skills to effectively carry and communicate the message and work of Sustainable Northwest to stakeholders
– Vision and strategic thinking ability to bring strategic direction and engage partners
– Ability to attract and steward resources for the organization
– Decisiveness and composure under pressure
– Ability to engage with and lead teams
– Experience in engaging donors and building sustainable funding models
– Knowledge and understanding of natural resource conservation with a commitment to authentic engagement with rural and Tribal communities
– Understanding and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
