Job Description:
Cornell Botanic Gardens is seeking a Landscape Operations Supervisor to coordinate and oversee various program areas including natural areas projects and programs, landscape infrastructure construction and maintenance, fleet operations, and the deer management program. In this role, you will collaborate with the Director of Natural Areas and other staff members to develop and implement projects and programs for the Gardens’ 3,700 acres of natural areas. You will also oversee the landscape construction crew, manage fleet operations, and provide leadership in the deer management program.
Required Qualifications:
– Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing
– Demonstrated skill in understanding cultural differences and connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals
– Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in plant ecology, forest ecology, conservation biology, wildlife biology, restoration ecology, sustainable use, or related fields
– Broad knowledge and in-depth understanding of regional biota, resource management, ecosystem processes, trail construction, landscape and hardscape construction methods, invasive and nuisance animal control, and land-based sustainability practices
– Demonstrated ability to identify needs within specific natural areas and develop and execute management plans
– Experience with wildlife management and monitoring programs
– Knowledgeable about white-tailed deer ecology and deer management
– Demonstrated project management experience
– Excellent organizational and communication skills
– Ability to develop effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
– Master’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience
– Experience with landscape construction projects, trail infrastructure, construction, and habitat restoration projects
– Proficient in the use of ESRI ArcGIS and Trimble GPS technologies
– Prior supervisory and leadership experience
– Experience with hazard abatement and educational programs
Salary Range: $59,325.00 – $68,945.00
