Location: Ventucopa, California, United States
Quail Springs is seeking a Land Stewardship Director to join our team. The Land Stewardship Director will be responsible for overseeing the native plant restoration work in partnership with the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. This individual will also contribute to additional Quail Springs programs as needed. The ideal candidate will have expertise in site-specific native plants, project management, farming, infrastructure installation, public education, and physical labor. This position is available starting in June 2024, with the opportunity to start sooner.

We are located in the Cuyama Valley of southern California on the traditional homelands of the Chumash people. Our community is comprised of solutionaries, farmers, artists, and land stewards who strive to create an example of a regenerative human community. We live in off-grid infrastructure and practice sustainable living methods.
As the Land Stewardship Director, you will lead our involvement as subgrantees in the Plant with Purpose: Conservation Outreach in the Cuyama Valley project. This grant-funded project aims to assist small farmers and ranchers in the Cuyama Valley by developing climate-smart conservation practices. Some of your responsibilities will include communicating and collaborating with grantors and partners, harvesting and processing local native seeds, creating necessary infrastructure, installing native plants and irrigation, and supporting various Quail Springs programs.
The ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge of native plants and high desert ecology, experience working with irrigation systems, project management experience, farming experience, and the ability and interest in physical labor. Leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well within a team are also important qualifications for this role.
