Job Description:
The Urban Farm (TUF) is seeking a Horticulture Manager who will be responsible for the planning, management, and oversight of TUF’s horticultural operations and team. This includes overseeing produce production on a ~1 acre market garden, managing the community garden, a demonstration hydroponic greenhouse, Freight Farm hydroponic shipping container, and pollinator & perennial gardens throughout the property. The Horticulture Manager will also be responsible for educational programming and horticultural-based events, ensuring that the farm is producing as well as educating and engaging members of the community about gardening, agriculture, food access, and sustainability. Reporting to TUF’s Executive Director and working collaboratively with the TUF team, the Horticulture Manager will play a key role in leading the operations of our horticultural programs as well as achieving the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
– Plan, manage, and oversee TUF’s horticultural operations and team.
– Oversee produce production on a ~1 acre market garden.
– Manage the community garden, demonstration hydroponic greenhouse, and Freight Farm hydroponic shipping container.
– Maintain and curate the pollinator & perennial gardens throughout the property.
– Develop and implement educational programming related to gardening, agriculture, food access, and sustainability.
– Organize and coordinate horticultural-based events and workshops.
– Collaborate with the TUF team to support the organization’s mission and goals.
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or related field.
– Minimum of 5 years of experience in horticulture management.
– Strong knowledge of sustainable farming practices, organic gardening, and horticultural techniques.
– Excellent leadership and management skills.
– Ability to plan and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
– Passion for youth education, community engagement, and sustainability.
