Job Description:
Great Bay Stewards, in partnership with the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, is seeking a Community Engagement Program Manager to lead the Great Bay Changemaker Bootcamp program. This program aims to inspire, train, and support advocates for water resources in the Great Bay watershed. As the Program Manager, you will work closely with the Great Bay-Piscataqua Waterkeeper, environmental organizations, and specialists in the region to implement the program. This position is supported by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation through the Great Bay 2030 Initiative.
The Community Engagement Program Manager will be a contract position with one year of guaranteed funding, and the possibility of extension. The Program Manager will report to the Coastal Training Program Coordinator of the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and will be guided by a small program team and an advisory group of natural resource managers, community engagement professionals, and environmental advocates. While remote work is an option, preference will be given to candidates based in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire. Office space in Greenland or Portsmouth is available if desired.
Key Responsibilities:
– Collaborate with the Great Bay 2030 Engagement and Stewardship Workgroup, serving as an advisory group for the Changemaker program.
– Attend regular meetings with the program team and the Great Bay-Piscataqua Waterkeeper, and participate in relevant community meetings.
– Prioritize inclusion and equity in program strategies and implementation.
– Engage with partners to identify key issues, locations, and speakers for the Changemaker program.
– Develop and facilitate a series of training sessions for the Changemaker program, including community building activities, skill building exercises, field visits, and discussions on locally relevant issues.
– Manage logistics for each training session, including speaker coordination, venue reservations, and material preparations.
– Advertise the program and recruit a diverse cohort of residents interested in environmental advocacy.
– Lead a series of Changemaker program events in 2024, working closely with guest speakers and the program implementation team.
– Maintain communication and build relationships with participants, fostering trust and inclusion.
– Develop program content for public sharing on the Changemaker program webpage and for program participants.
– Evaluate program activities and provide suggestions for future years.
Qualifications:
– Passion for water resources and environmental sustainability.
– Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience in fields such as Natural Resource, Ecology, Environmental Policy, Communication, or Education.
– Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management, environmental/natural resources work, or public/adult education.
– Enjoy designing educational experiences, facilitating groups, and creating welcoming spaces for diverse participants.
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of people and synthesize diverse perspectives.
– Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan and track multiple activities.
– Creative and curious, committed to learning about current water resources issues and finding new ways to engage people and build a culture of stewardship.
– Ability to understand and translate technical content for non-technical audiences.
– Works well independently and collaboratively.
– Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
– Spirit of adventure, willing to engage with the community and learn about current water resources challenges.
– Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, slide development, basic survey development, and email marketing.
– Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and accessibility, with a desire to empower residents to become advocates for their community.
– Own computer equipment, cell phone, car, and remote office equipment.
– Ability to participate in occasional evening or weekend events.
Compensation: This part-time contract position offers a salary of $40-50/hour, depending on experience.
