Job Description:
Los Angeles is feeling the effects of extreme heat due to climate change, making it the city’s #1 Climate Hazard. The urban heat island effect is magnifying the risks, causing surface and ambient temperatures to rise. The FUSE Executive Fellow will conduct a cost-benefit study to analyze climate adaptation strategies within StreetsLA’s Extreme Heat Toolkit. This study will focus on trees, cool paving, and shade structures for cooling neighborhoods and maximizing the impact of cooling infrastructure investments. The Fellowship duration is from April 22, 2024, to April 21, 2025.
FUSE is a national nonprofit organization working to expand social and economic opportunities, particularly for communities affected by systemic and institutionalized racism. FUSE partners with local governments and communities to address pressing challenges by placing experienced professionals within city and county agencies. FUSE Executive Fellows lead strategic projects designed to advance racial equity and accelerate systems change. As an Executive Fellow, you will receive training, coaching, and professional support from FUSE.
Key responsibilities of the FUSE Executive Fellow include:
– Conducting a comprehensive economic study for optimal cooling tool selection in urban areas.
– Developing a detailed cost-benefit analysis report for each cooling solution, considering initial investment and ongoing maintenance.
– Performing a comparative analysis of different tools for varied urban contexts to aid in decision-making.
– Conducting an environmental impact assessment and public health implications study for each cooling tool.
– Generating tailored recommendations for optimizing the use of cooling tools in diverse urban environments.
Qualifications:
– Strong ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise recommendations.
– Experience in developing and implementing strategic and operational project management plans.
– Demonstrated ability to generate innovative, data-driven solutions.
– Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
– Ability to foster collaboration across multiple constituencies.
– Proven experience in relationship building with diverse stakeholders.
– Confidence and professional diplomacy in interacting with individuals at all levels of various organizations.
Compensation:
As a Fellow, you will be employed by FUSE and receive an annual base salary of $80,000. Additionally, you will have access to various health, dental, and vision insurance benefits. Please note that the compensation for this year of public service is not intended to represent market-rate compensation for experienced professionals.
