About the Role:
The Port of Seattle is seeking an External Relations Senior Program Manager to lead equitable Community and Environmental Engagement programs that support near-Port communities, foster strategic relationships, and align Port-Community benefits. This position will support the Maritime Environment and Sustainability team with designing and implementing outreach, engagement, and communications strategies. The Senior Program Manager will oversee the Commission-adopted Duwamish Valley Community Equity Program and cultivate partnerships with stakeholders in local government, near-Port communities, industry, and environmental/sustainability movements. Additionally, they will support and implement goals related to public involvement, sustainability, and equity within the organization.
Responsibilities:
– Lead and manage equitable Community and Environmental Engagement programs
– Foster strategic relationships with diverse stakeholder groups
– Align Port-Community benefits and priorities
– Design and implement outreach, engagement, and communications strategies
– Oversee the Commission-adopted Duwamish Valley Community Equity Program
– Collaborate with the Maritime Environment and Sustainability Center of Expertise
– Support the Green Jobs Initiative and career development in the Green Jobs field
– Track progress and accomplishments, manage program budgets, and evaluate program success
– Build partnerships and manage relationships with stakeholders
– Support Commissioners, Executives, and senior staff in participating in environmental, community, and career events
– Consult on Environmental Justice strategies and community engagement best practices
Qualifications:
– 8 years of extensive experience in multi-cultural and complex community engagement
– Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Communications, or Environmental and Sustainability studies
– Master’s degree and 12 years of experience in multicultural community engagement (desired)
– Strong understanding of political systems and policies related to community engagement and equity
– Experience in developing and implementing multi-stakeholder partnerships
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
– Knowledgeable about environmental justice, cultural competency, and environmental impact assessment
