Job Description:
The Port of Seattle is seeking an experienced External Relations Senior Program Manager to lead equitable Community and Environmental Engagement programs in support of near-Port communities. In this role, you will foster strategic relationships, build understanding for Port-Community priorities, and align Port-Community benefits. Additionally, you will support the Maritime Environment and Sustainability team with designing and implementing outreach, engagement, and communications strategies.
Responsibilities:
– Lead the Commission-adopted Duwamish Valley Community Equity Program and collaborate with the Port Community Action Team
– Support the implementation of equity-oriented partnerships with local government, near-Port communities, industry, and environmental/sustainability movements
– Build and foster external relationships to advance public involvement, sustainability, and equity principles
– Collaborate with the Maritime Environment and Sustainability Center of Expertise on community engagement programs and communications
– Oversee the Port’s management and operations of the Duwamish River Community Hub
– Partner with the Office of Equity, Development and Inclusion on the Green Jobs Initiative and workforce development
– Track program progress, manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and evaluate program success
– Coordinate program logistics, materials, presentations, and event promotions
– Innovate and develop partnerships to solve complex Port challenges and manage relationships with stakeholders
– Provide support and guidance to Commissioners, Executives, and senior staff for environmental, community, and career-connected events
– Evaluate and respond to sponsorship, tour, and event requests on environmental and community-related topics
Requirements:
– 8 years of extensive experience working in a multicultural and complex community engagement field
– Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Communications, or Environmental and Sustainability studies (Master’s degree preferred)
– Exceptional understanding of political systems and policies that inform institutional decision-making processes
– Experience with community engagement best practices emphasizing racial equity solutions
– Strong written and verbal communication skills for multiple platforms and audiences
– Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build productive relationships
– Valid Washington State Driver’s License or ability to obtain one
