Executive Director – Champlain Area Trails
Location: Westport, NY
Salary Range: $85,000 annually
Champlain Area Trails (CATS) is seeking an experienced and innovative Executive Director to lead their organization in making trails and protecting land in the beautiful Lake Champlain Region of New York’s Adirondack Park. CATS is a highly regarded environmental organization dedicated to trails and land conservation in the Champlain Valley and the Adirondack Park. As the founder transitions to retirement, the new Executive Director will have the opportunity to write the next chapter for CATS in collaboration with the staff, board, and supporters.
Responsibilities:
– Develop and facilitate a collaborative and active strategic and annual planning process
– Set and manage organizational goals and ensure outcomes consistent with the mission
– Oversee the development of programs and initiatives
– Lead with clear expectations and personal and professional growth opportunities for staff
– Manage operational policies and procedures
– Ensure financial sustainability through budget creation and oversight
– Collaborate with the Director of Development and Communications on fundraising efforts
– Coordinate projects to conserve land and develop trail agreements
– Foster strong relationships with the Board of Directors and support their governance role
– Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, engaging with stakeholders and representing CATS in the community
Qualifications:
– Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
– At least five years of senior leadership experience with staff management, budgeting, and fundraising responsibilities
– Experience in the environmental sector or relevant non-profit management and program development experience
– Strong organizational and leadership abilities with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
– Demonstrated success in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors and stakeholders
– Familiarity with land trusts, land conservation, and legal processes associated with land transactions is a plus
– Passion for the mission of CATS and a desire to propel the organization to the next level
