The Center for Environment & Society (CES) at Washington College is seeking a Director for their River and Field Campus (RAFC). This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. The Director of RAFC will be responsible for developing research agendas and educational programming that support sustainable land management for a multi-functional landscape.
The River and Field Campus is a 5,200-acre property located less than four miles from Washington College’s main campus. It includes a variety of habitats, such as shorelines, lakes, forests, and prairies, and provides opportunities for field research and teaching. The Director of RAFC will oversee activities in agriculture, habitat restoration and conservation, research and education, and recreation. They will also collaborate with stakeholders, including landowners, farmers, and the Washington College athletics department.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field, such as environmental science or studies, and at least five years of professional experience in higher education or research. Experience with mentoring undergraduate students in research and teaching is required, as well as knowledge of sustainable land use practices. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, along with a proven track record of earning extramural funding through grant writing. Experience with philanthropic donations is preferred, but not required.
