The Center for Environment & Society at Washington College is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Regenerative Agriculture to join our leadership team. As the Director, you will be responsible for enhancing the Center’s research mission within the agricultural community in Maryland. We are looking for a candidate who is knowledgeable about current trends in food production and sustainable agriculture and can approach research with an interdisciplinary lens.
Responsibilities:
– Foster research, teaching, and innovation around sustainable agriculture, including small-scale farming and large-scale, row cropping diversification
– Cultivate a dynamic learning environment informed by various disciplines such as agricultural science, policy, behavioral science, and economics
– Coordinate research programs with local farms and the college-owned River and Field Campus
– Engage with community partners including farmers, NGOs, government agencies, and stakeholders to create an informed research program
– Link regenerative agriculture program to studies in environmental science, biology, and business
– Develop an applied research agenda inclusive of undergraduate students and external partners
– Teach one course per year to develop student interest and capacity in research and scholarship
– Mentor student projects and internships, and support student professional development
– Represent the Center and communicate research to internal and external audiences
– Seek external funding individually or as part of research teams
– Align with strategic goals of the Center and College and report annually on activities
– Manage the budget and assets of the Regenerative Agriculture program
Qualifications:
– PhD in a relevant field such as Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Biology, or Environmental Science
– At least five years of professional experience in higher education or research, preferably in transdisciplinary research or team science
– Experience with mentoring undergraduates in research
– Teaching experience preferred
– Strong written and oral communication skills
– Track record of earning extramural funding through grant writing
– Experience building interdisciplinary partnerships across private and public sectors
– Knowledge of lab management and experience with philanthropic donations is a plus
