Job Description:
Chatham University’s Falk School of Sustainability & Environment is seeking a Director of Green Buildings & Systems and Assistant Professor for its groundbreaking Eden Hall Campus. This role requires both professional practice and teaching experience to bridge the gap between operations and academia within the campus’s living, learning laboratory. Successful candidates will oversee operations of state-of-the-art green buildings, renewable energy systems, and a green wastewater treatment facility, teach within interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and manage academic and community partnerships related to green buildings and energy systems.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for people, green buildings, and renewable energy, as well as experience in operations and teaching in a dynamic environment of students, other faculty, and professional staff. This position offers the opportunity for advancement within Chatham University’s faculty rank system.

Responsibilities:
1. Oversee operations of campus buildings, energy and wastewater systems, and general facilities functions, including budgeting and procurement.
2. Develop and implement a strategy to leverage campus-based buildings and systems for research, student experience, and academic learning outcomes.
3. Supervise full-time staff and part-time student employees who support building and facility operations.
4. Teach courses related to green building design and operations, renewable energy systems, and other topics related to the built environment.
5. Collaborate with other faculty to create experience-based student learning opportunities and design new courses that make use of campus systems and facilities.
6. Advise students and supervise student thesis and capstone projects.
7. Act as a liaison with community partners on projects connecting green buildings and systems with nonprofit organizations, businesses, other universities, and government agencies.
8. Support the Dean in fundraising for campus and educational projects related to buildings and systems.
9. Co-chair the Eden Hall Buildings & Systems Council, a collaborative space for faculty, staff, and students to share information, develop projects, and coordinate operations.
Required Qualifications:
1. At least three to five years of experience managing sustainable operations of green buildings, renewable energy systems, or related systems in a commercial or institutional setting, with a focus on sustainable practices.
2. Experience teaching in academic or workforce training programs related to sustainability and the built environment, in both classroom and practice-based settings.
3. Graduate-level academic degree in a relevant field, such as green building design or operation, renewable energy, engineering, business administration, or architecture.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience with teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses, as well as mentoring and supervising students.
2. Strengths in community engagement and partnerships, including collaborative project management.
3. Knowledge of social justice issues related to the built environment and energy systems, either through professional training or practical experience.
4. Successful fundraising and grant management experience.
5. A PhD or other terminal degree.
