Director of Environmental Planning – Port of Long Beach
Location: Long Beach, California, United States
Salary Range: $210,000 – $235,000
The Port of Long Beach is seeking a Director of Environmental Planning to provide leadership and oversight for their Environmental Planning Division. This division is responsible for sustainability, air quality, water quality, environmental remediation, and compliance with environmental laws and regulations. The Director will play a key role in developing and implementing proactive environmental improvement strategies.
Responsibilities:
– Provide leadership and direction on environmental and sustainability initiatives
– Develop and implement environmental and sustainability policies
– Direct the planning and implementation of the Clean Air Action Plan
– Prepare grant applications and manage awarded grant funds for environmental projects
– Engage with environmental organizations and community members on environmental matters
– Lead the Port’s stormwater program and ensure regulatory compliance
– Represent the Port at public workshops and hearings
– Oversee activities related to the Port’s role as the Lead Agency under CEQA/NEPA
– Train and mentor staff on project management and environmental policy
Requirements:
– Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering, Public Health Policy, or a related field
– Minimum 10 years of experience in the environmental field
– Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience
– Working knowledge of CEQA/NEPA
– Ability to travel to work-related events
Desired qualifications:
– Graduate degree
– Experience in port or coastal environmental planning
– Strong leadership background in a complex organization
To thrive in this role, you will need technical knowledge of air quality, water quality, and CEQA/NEPA practices. You should be flexible, strategic, and innovative, with excellent communication skills. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships is essential.
