Summary Description:
Quiet Communities (QC) is a fast-growing non-profit organization focused on addressing the problem of noise and its impacts on public health and the environment. QC is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Development to drive the organization’s fundraising efforts and support its three-year strategic plan. The Director of Development will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to raise $5 million over three years and will play a key role in cultivating and managing relationships with individual and corporate donors. The successful candidate will have a passion for environmental and public health issues and a proven track record of securing major gifts and grants.
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy and Execution:
– Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy/plan to raise $5 million over three years to support the organization’s mission.
– Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
– Lead and manage all aspects of donor relations, including acquisition, stewardship, and retention.
– Support growth of an existing membership program from 300 to 5,000.
– Cultivate and manage corporate sponsorships.
Grant Program Development:
– Work with a team to support and grow an existing grant program.
– Help shape proposals and reporting to foundations, government agencies, and other funding sources.
Events and Campaigns:
– Plan and execute an annual fundraising event, and support donor appreciation activities and community outreach.
– Develop and manage targeted fundraising campaigns, such as capital campaigns, online giving days, direct mail, and peer-to-peer fundraising.
Board and Volunteer Engagement:
– Work closely with the Board of Directors to leverage their networks and secure additional resources.
– Recruit, train, and manage fundraising volunteers and committees to support development activities.
Communications and Marketing:
– Collaborate with the communications team to develop compelling fundraising materials, including newsletters and social media content.
– Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all development communications.
Data Management and Reporting:
– Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the existing CRM system.
– Track and report on fundraising progress, metrics, and outcomes to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
– Minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related roles, with a proven track record of securing major gifts and grants.
– Strong understanding of fundraising principles, strategies, and best practices.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and presentations.
– Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
– Proficiency in donor management software (e.g., Google Sheets, Squarespace, Givebutter, Mailchimp).
– Prior experience in science, climate, and public health is not required; however, a successful candidate should possess a commitment to the mission, with a desire to prioritize environmental sustainability and environmental justice.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation will be discussed with the final candidate based on the anticipated number of hours worked per week. The annual maximum part-time compensation is currently budgeted at $75,000. At this time, QC does not offer medical insurance, retirement, or other traditional benefits. This may change as the organization grows.
