POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief Sustainability Officer will lead on issues related to environmental sustainability and resilience and cross-departmental policy and planning as the Village implements Climate Ready Oak Park, a comprehensive and long-range plan developed in response to the global climate crisis. The Chief Sustainability Officer operates in a leadership capacity out of the Village Manager’s Office, serving on the Village’s executive team and is expected to be a regional leader in the climate, sustainability, and environmental justice movement. The successful candidate will exemplify the Village Organization’s core values of community, connection, service, and respect.
QUALIFICATIONS:
– Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. environmental science, sustainability, public policy)
– 5+ years of experience in sustainability or related field
– Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
– Demonstrated knowledge of environmental sustainability practices and policies
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Lead the implementation of Climate Ready Oak Park, coordinating efforts across departments to achieve sustainability and resilience goals
– Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders to advance sustainability initiatives
– Monitor and evaluate progress towards sustainability goals and provide regular updates to Village leadership and community
– Collaborate with Village staff to integrate sustainability principles into policies, programs, and capital improvement projects
– Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in sustainability and environmental justice, and leverage this knowledge to guide decision-making and promote innovation
