Job Description:
The School of Visual Arts is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Associate Director of Sustainability and Energy Management. In this role, you will lead the campus energy management program to support and advance SVA’s sustainability efforts. You will be responsible for evaluating, optimizing, and managing heating, cooling, and water consumption across a portfolio of 18 buildings, totaling 1M square feet.
Responsibilities:
– Develop and maintain a system of consistent, efficient, and reliable energy management
– Oversee energy studies and coordinate energy projects, including cost-saving initiatives, efficiency projects, and conservation programs
– Partner with Facilities staff to establish and implement a comprehensive energy reduction plan
– Manage project delivery process, from scope development to close-out and final payment activities
– Work with consultants to develop controls improvements and design specifications for energy management systems
– Develop long-term capital plans to meet regulatory goals and implement energy innovations
– Coordinate with Facilities to develop projects and staff training that increase the control, efficiency, and operational flexibility of building management systems
– Identify cost-saving opportunities, such as grants, incentives, rebates, and financing
– Manage the Campus Energy Dashboard building integration and communicate energy and utility data to occupants
– Maintain strategic relationships with key utilities and energy reporting vendors
– Fulfill project reporting requirements with relevant programs
– Establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with stakeholders
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or equivalent field
– Minimum of five years of professional experience in energy management and related capital projects
– Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements, including LL84, LL87, LL95, and LL97
– Familiarity with local incentive programs, such as Con Edison and NYSERDA
– Strong data management and analysis skills, with proficiency in Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and energy management tools
– Passion for sustainability and continuous improvement of practices
– Familiarity with construction documents and understanding of construction trades
– Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
– Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, and remain calm in high-pressure situations
– Self-starting attitude with proven ability to work independently and effectively within time constraints and on multiple projects simultaneously
– Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders in facilities, design, construction, academia, and government
– Willingness and ability to perform periodic inspections of site conditions and project progress, including climbing stairs and ladders, accessing roofs, mechanical and electrical rooms, and lifting up to 50 lbs
– Availability to occasionally work outside of normal office hours, on evenings and/or weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
– Certified Energy Manager/LEED AP or other relevant accreditation/certification
– PE Accreditation
– Experience in higher education facilities management
– Experience in educating individuals and groups about new concepts and resources
