Full-Time Position

The Upper Savannah Land Trust (USLT) is seeking an Associate or Assistant Director to join their team and contribute to their mission of land conservation. With a focus on protecting the rural character of the eight-county area in the western Piedmont of South Carolina, USLT works with private landowners to preserve critical watersheds, unique habitats, and compelling history. The Associate/Assistant Director will play a significant role in various aspects of land trust operations, including landowner outreach and negotiation, easement monitoring and stewardship, technical and administrative support, donor outreach and fundraising, marketing and communications, and event planning. This position offers opportunities for growth and leadership within the organization, with the potential to assume some of the Executive Director’s responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
1. Program Leadership:
– Advise and assist in structuring workflow and leading teams to deliver outstanding work products.
– Share responsibility for informing, reporting, and communicating with the Board and membership.
– Represent USLT in conferences, professional associations, and other public events.

2. Land Trust Operations:
– Participate or take responsibility for landowner dialogue, easement drafting, and document development.
– Assist in aligning monitoring schedule, techniques, and reporting with accreditation requirements.
– Support budgeting, financial management, and technology adoption.
– Assist in fundraising and outreach/education events.
– Identify and manage grants consistent with USLT’s mission.

3. Additional Essential Duties:
– Provide flexibility to assume additional duties as directed by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:
– Three or more years of experience in a similar position at an accredited land trust or a related organization.
– Deep experience in at least one of the three operational areas: land protection/stewardship, organizational support, or development support.
– Familiarity and experience with natural resources and software applications common to professional workplaces.
– Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
– Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
– Passion for land conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.
